Sport Management Update #2

Since the last time, I have written in here a lot has happened. I have gotten a lot of new jobs and all of them have been halted by COVID-19. This has been saddening because it has halted a lot of the progress I have been making but it has also given me a lot of time to hone my skills and create new content while formulating and establishing ideas. I have been bolstering up my LinkedIn and have created a website as a central point for all created content. Right now everything seems like we are in a pause and almost like a Twilight Zone. All I can do is try and position myself the best way I can because eventually, this will be over and employers will be looking for people. It will be interesting to see how every sport will collide as I expect sports to be in full swing in late summer to early fall. We will see what happens.

Sport Management Update#1

Yesterday I wrapped up my second class. I told myself that I was going to start this blog as soon as I started the program but I have finally found time to actually start now. Here is the recap. In January of my senior year of college, I was accepted into the University of San Francisco Sport Management program. It was funny when I got the acceptance letter I had two days to respond because I looked at it so late. I was racing to get all of the last-minute paperwork in that I didn't have time to think about what I had accomplished by getting in. Once I got in I was counting down the days to when I would start grad school. I had my first USF event on May 4 which was a game at the Banc of California Stadium for the LAFC. It was amazing to see the VIP rooms during our tour and all of the exclusive access which we were given ( we even went on the field). I was then counting down the days to graduation. Graduation ended up being a lot of fun. I got to hang out with all my friends in my major till we all went our separate ways. Shortly after I had to go apartment hunting. This was a struggle because there were only a few times that I could go up to LA to tour apartments but then Randy ( my friend from college) and I decided to live in Koreatown. Our move-in week was hectic because a week later I started my graduate program. It all started with an orientation, I started by picking up Priscilla ( another person in the sport management program) and we then went to the orientation. It was a lot of fun but also overwhelming. Some of the other students already had jobs at sports teams or firms and I had nothing. When our first class started we were given a lot of writing assignments to do. My first assignment was not good I got a "C" but I began to improve as time went on. By the end, I had gotten a "B-". A week later I had gotten an email from Ashley Sloper ( the director of the southern California sport management campus), she had told me that I wasn't up to standard and I needed to do really well in the next class. At that point  I wanted to cry, all this work was about to be for nothing if I didn't do better in the next class. Good thing it was marketing ( my major). Through the Marketing course, I really enjoyed it the teacher ( Michael Goldman) was really cool. He would go out for drinks with us after class and talk to us more like peers than as teacher and student. He asked us what we wanted to learn in every class, which I found interesting. At the end of the semester, we had a big project for Wasserman (sports marketing firm). I thought we did really well on the project but one of the judges disagreed. In the end, we got 93% which is still good. Overall, my experience in the program has been fun and enriching. It is great to be around people with the same interests and all working to get established in the sports industry. Our next class is accounting which I am not looking forward to but it is a new challenge I will be looking to embrace
